Type Locality and Naming

By the mountains of Egarbelitau, northern foothills of the N. Nuratau ridge. V.P. Vashchenko et al. in 1990 (Korsakov et al., 1993f). Stratotype to the west of the Kutarma quarry (Korsakov et al., 1993f).

Synonym: Egarbelitauskaya Suite, Егарбелитауская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Thick-bedded, aphinitic, grey limestones, rarely conglomeratic limestones. Thickness more than 300 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

With unclear relationships, it overlies the Asmansay Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Kutarmay Fm (Usmanov et al., 1999f.).

Regional extent

Northern foothills of the N. Nuratau ridge, fragmentarily, in tectonic blocks in Egarbelitau, Bozaigyr, Balyklitau. The most complete undisturbed section of the suite was studied by R.R. Usmanov et al. (1999f) at the eastern end of the southern branch of Balyklitau (thalweg of the Kly River).

Fossils

Contains foraminifers Archaesphaera minima Sul., Parathurammina sp., Bisphaera cf. irregularis Bir., Cribrosphaeroides sp.; tabulates - Favosites ex gr. nikiforovae Chekh., Crassialveolites ex gr. multiperforatus Sub., Caliopora sp.; brachiopods - Stringocephalus burtini Deff.; stromatoporoids - Amphipora ex gr. alveolata Ermak., A. ex gr. vesiculosa Ermak.; conodonts - Pandorinellinae sp. - of Middle Devonian age.

Accepted in the volume of the Middle Devonian. (460). Put as Base Givetian for graphic purposes - "Middle Devonian; but underlying formations include Emsian-Frasnian => put as base Famennian for graphic purposes
